The DARP Platform Education Series -

The Dona Ana County Republican Party ("DARP") is proud to announce its Platform Education Series. DARP will attempt to host speaking events each month tailored to a specific theme related to the New Mexico Republican Party’s platform. DARP wants to reach out, educate, and energize all Republicans so we can affect our community for the better.

The theme for August is "Protecting Life." Why? Because before we can preserve our freedoms, we must first protect life. It is important that the Republican Party never shy away from the ideals upon which our party was founded and we at DARP can think of nothing more important than defending the unborn.

Our platform states:

"We believe in the protection and sanctity of human life from pre-born to elderly, infirm and disabled until natural death. We are opposed to human embryo research, human cloning and tax funded abortion."

And we have some great speakers for this event! Congressman Steve Pearce and Dr. Anthony Levatino.

First up is Dr. Levatino. Dr. Levatino is a Las Cruces OBGYN who possesses degrees in both medicine and law, providing him with a unique understanding of the medical and legal ramifications of abortion. What makes his presentation even more compelling is that Dr. Levatino used to provide abortions — as many as 1,200 — some of them after 20 weeks of pregnancy. Tragically, his daughter died in an automobile accident, and he re-evaluated his position on abortion, and since then, has tirelessly fought for the rights of the unborn.

Most recently, Levatino testified before the U.S. Congress May 23, 2013 concerning the District of Columbia’s Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act. You can listen to his testimony here:

Next up is Congressman Pearce. Congressman Pearce has followed up on Dr. Levatino’s efforts by voting in favor of H.R. 1797, the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, which would ban abortions past 20 weeks of pregnancy. Pearce has also voted against federal funding for abortion, and in favor of other measures to protect the unborn. So please make it a priority to attend and educate yourselves on how you can make an impact for the unborn right here in Dona Ana County!

Congressman Pearce and Dr. Levatino will give their presentations August 20th at University Presbyterian Church, 2010 E. Wisconsin Ave, at 7:00 pm. For those that wish to talk with our presenters beforehand, dinner will be provided by Lorenzo’s an hour before at 6:00 pm. The cost for dinner is $12.00. A question and answer session will follow our speakers’ presentation. Please RSVP with Jayme Wallis at or call her at 640-7223 by August 18th. For those not eating dinner, the event is free of charge to attend. We still ask that you RSVP and consider making a contribution of $5, $10, or $20 to help DARP continue to put on these important events.
